We at Tejon Ranch Conservancy would like to give thanks for all of our friends and supporters. Here's an early Wildlife Wednesday video we thought would be appropriate for the season.

Once again, it's Wildlife Wednesday. For today's installment, we have a fun video of a black bear (Ursus americanus) shaking some creek water off in Tejon Creek.

Bobcat in El Paso Creek
As part of a riparian study on Tejon Ranch, Berekeley PhD candidate Felix Ratcliff has set up a number of wildlife cameras on the property. On August 15, 2013, one of his cameras caught a group of bobcats hanging out ALL NIGHT. Here's one of the half-dozen videos we captured of bobcats playing in El Paso Creek. Does it get much better?

Predators and prey
We often imagine carnivores as killing machines, successfully capturing prey whenever they please. This video shows how untrue that notion is. In the beginning of the video, we see what appears to be a cottontail rabbit bouncing around the shrub in the background. Then, at 00:16, the prey bounds to the lower-right of the screen, being chased by a bobcat. When we imagine the end of this encounter, the rabbit makes it away safely.
